Bio-identical hormone replacement at Synergy

Estrogen Hormone Therapy

Although aging is an inevitable part of life, many in the science and medical communities are looking at it for what it is — a disease. After all, aging shares many of the qualities of a debilitating condition in the way it progressively deteriorates our bodies. With that in mind, mainstream medicine is now looking for ways to prevent the aging process and not just ward off individual symptoms.

One such preventive treatment is estrogen implant pellet therapy. This procedure is a form of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy that involves the insertion of pellets that are molecularly similar to the estrogen women’s bodies naturally produce. This hormone replacement technique is just one way we help our patients with age management at Synergy Wellness Center.

Here we will answer questions that many of our patients have about estrogen hormone therapy.

Why Use Estrogen Implants for Age Management?

We are discovering just how essential proper hormone balance is to age management. Hormones, like estrogen, act as messengers among crucial bodily systems such as the endocrine, nervous and immune systems. These hormones also exert their biochemical effects to regulate our body temperature, growth, immune function and aging.

Unfortunately, as we age, women experience a drop in the hormone estrogen. Allowing for the replenishment of estrogen to its optimal level alleviates age-related changes and brings about improvements in:

  • Muscle tone
  • Skin smoothness
  • Hair texture
  • Sex drive

What Are Estrogen Hormone Pellets for Women?

Estrogen hormone pellets are implants made biochemically of the same estrogen produced by the human body. They differ from synthetic estrogen hormones, which are artificially formulated and can negatively impact the female body. Estrogen hormone pellets are natural and plant-based. They precisely mimic the molecular structure of estrogen, thus allowing the body to metabolize it, minimizing side effects.

These pellets can be inserted into the lower abdomen or hip area in a quick and relatively painless procedure that takes only a few minutes. The pellet remains in the body, providing accurate and consistent doses of estrogen for three to six months.

Who Should Consider Estrogen Hormone Pellets?

Although most consider hormone replacement as a treatment for menopause, estrogen hormone pellets can be used by women of all ages because of the positive benefits they bring to the female body. This treatment has been shown to bring about improvements in:

  • Skin tone
  • Hair texture
  • Concentration and memory
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Low sex drive
  • PMS
  • Osteoporosis
  • Heart disease

Side Effects Associated With Estrogen Pellets

The side effects associated with estrogen hormone pellets are very mild and easily managed. Some women report excess hair growth or acne, both of which are treatable. Other side effects may include water weight gain and breast tenderness, which resolve over time.

After the pellet is inserted, you may experience temporary discomfort and slight bruising, which should subside within a few days. There is also a rare risk of infection or pellet extrusion.

How Long Will It Take for the Hormone Pellets to Take Effect?

Some patients report feeling the positive effects of estrogen pellet implants within 24 to 48 hours after it’s inserted. However, it generally takes a week or two after the procedure for patients to notice positive benefits like more energy, a happier mood and improved sleep.

Is Hormone Pellet Therapy Covered by Insurance?

To determine if this treatment is covered by your insurance, you may want to contact your provider. Each patient’s policy is different, so we can’t speak to your individual insurance company. In many cases, your Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can be used for payment.

Even if your insurance does not cover pellet therapy, it may still be a cost-effective treatment option for you, especially when you consider the benefits and the many different conditions it lessens and prevents.
