What Happens in a Vaser Lipo Treatment Session?

Scroll For More Info

You’ve been exercising regularly and eating right, but you’ve got a few problem areas that just won’t budge. Maybe it’s extra flab in the abdomen, thighs that are a little too heavy, or a thick waist. A cutting-edge treatment called Vaser Lipo could be just what you need. Vaser Lipo gets rid of those stubborn fatty patches and helps contour your body. Best of all, this minimally invasive treatment is far easier on the patient than traditional liposuction. Vaser is one of the many body-shaping treatments offered at Synergy Wellness in Bakersfield, CA.

What Is Vaser Lipo?

Vaser liposuction, essentially a gentler alternative to traditional lipo, uses ultrasound technology to break down fat cells that are then siphoned out of the body. It’s often used to remove fat from the abdomen, chest, waist, buttocks, and other areas, and because this type of treatment gives the doctor a great deal of control, patients get smooth, contoured results. Vaser is designed to loosen fat while preserving other tissues in the treatment area. Vaser stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.

How Does It Differ From Other Forms of Lipo?

Traditional liposuction and two newer forms of the treatment — Vaser Lipo and Smart Lipo — all attack stubborn fat, but they work in different ways. Traditional lipo, which is not as commonly used as it once was, relies more heavily on physical manipulation and suction to remove the fat. It tends to be more a more invasive treatment and requires a longer recovery.

Vaser and Smart Lipo, which is sometimes referred to as Laser Lipo, represent newer approaches that are minimally invasive. Vaser Lipo relies on ultrasound technology to break down fat, while Smart Lipo relies on laser heat to do the same thing.

Is There a Difference Between Vaser and Smart Lipo?

One of the key differences is that Vaser treatments are much more precise. The ultrasound energy associated with Vaser treatments specifically targets fatty tissue in the treatment area, minimizing damage to surrounding skin, nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. This type of targeted treatment usually results in a speedier recovery.

How Does Vaser Compare to Other Body Contouring Treatments?

In recent years there’s been a surge in the popularity of contouring treatments that rid the body of fat deposits using non-invasive or minimally invasive treatments. Many of these treatments, including Vaser, are in demand because they are effective but cost the patient little in the way of downtime.

But while many other contouring treatments melt, freeze, or manipulate fat in ways that encourage it to start to fade away, Vaser is unique because it removes a specific and measurable volume of fat from your body. A Vaser treatment can remove up to 4 percent of a patent’s body fat.

What Happens in a Vaser Session?

If you’re interested in Vaser Lipo, the first step will be to schedule a consultation where we’ll review your medical history, any medications you’re taking, and your treatment goals. We’ll work with you to determine whether this treatment is the right one for you. After your consultation, it’s just a matter of scheduling an appointment for your treatment.

At the start of treatment, an anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to ensure that the patient is completely comfortable. A small probe that emits ultrasound high-frequency vibration will be inserted through a small incision into the fatty tissue and will be used to break down fat cells. A cannula, or a tube, will then be used to siphon off the broken-down fat cells from the treatment area.

What Parts of the Body Can Be Treated?

The inner thighs, arms, and neck are commonly treated with Vaser technology. But this treatment has been used effectively all over the body, including on the hips, abdomen, knees, back, and buttocks.

What Will the Recovery Be Like?

Because this is an outpatient treatment, you’ll be able to head home after your appointment. You’ll want to make arrangements to have someone drive you home, and you’ll want to plan on resting for at least 12 hours. Most patients are back on their feet within a day or so. However, activity levels are restricted during a general recovery period that lasts about two weeks. We’ll also ask you to wear a compression garment over your treatment area. This garment will speed your recovery and help your skin conform to the body’s new shape.

Who Will Oversee My Treatment?

All of your treatment will be overseen by Dr. Jan Trobisch, our Medical Director. A native of Berlin, Germany, Dr. Trobisch completed his medical education at Freie Universitat Berlin. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Pinnacle Health Systems in Harrisburg, PA and at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, CA. Since finishing his residence, Dr. Trobisch has specialized in treating substance use disorders. Due to patient demand, he has expanded his medical services over the years to include medical weight loss, age management, and esthetic medicine.

What Are the Benefits of Vaser Lipo?

Vaser treatment offers a number of benefits, including relatively quick results, a more toned, defined silhouette, and the ability to precisely treat smaller areas of the body.

Convenience

Because this is an outpatient treatment, you won’t have to worry about an overnight hospital stay. And the minimally invasive nature of this treatment means the recovery period is much faster than with traditional lipo. All of these conveniences make Vaser a great option for time-crunched individuals who can’t afford to take weeks off of work for a more involved treatment.

Comfort

The ultrasound technology this treatment uses basically emulsifies the fat, making it very easy to remove and causing the patient no discomfort. The efficiency with which Vaser rids the body of fat also makes for an easier and faster recovery.

Speed

Most patients start to see results about six weeks after treatment. The best results, though, are usually visible several months after the treatment when the body has had time to completely heal.

Effectiveness

Because of the way this treatment is performed, Vaser treatment offers doctors greater control and precision. This means smaller and more delicate areas of the body like the neck and arms can be treated in a way that leaves them smooth and contoured.

You’ll be surprised at how good you look after treatment. This treatment wipes away excess fat while smoothing over the skin, giving the body a better definition. Most patients look younger, slimmer, and more toned after treatment. They also report a boost in self-confidence.

Safety

Vaser technology was approved by the FDA in 2010. It has been widely used since then and is considered an advanced, safe treatment.

Who Is a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

This type of lipo can be performed on both men and women and on patients with all skin types and tones. There are a few signs you may be an especially good candidate for Vaser treatment:

You’re Close to Your Goal Weight

This treatment is a great way to shake off problem fatty areas and give the body a tuneup, but it is not a way to drop a significant amount of weight. The ideal patient simply wants to shape up a little bit or take action against the first signs of aging. Many Vaser patients are individuals who have been working on losing weight and getting in shape but need a little help addressing persistent problem areas. After undergoing Vaser treatment and getting rid of those problem spots, many patients say they are able to lead more active lives.

You Can Commit to a Healthy Lifestyle

Although this treatment permanently removes fat, you’ll need to follow a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a careful diet, to maintain your results.

Your Skin Is Fairly Elastic

Patients who see the best results usually have fairly elastic skin that can conform to the body’s new shape after treatment.

You’re in Good Health Overall

The best patients are in good overall health and are not pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients who have bleeding or seizure disorders, or who are taking Coumadin, are not candidates for this treatment.

You’re Emotionally Stable

Making a change to your body — even if it’s a change you’re excited about — can be emotional. The ideal Vaser patient is realistic about the outcome of the treatment and is emotionally stable enough to handle the changes the body will undergo.

Questions and Answers

There’s a lot to like about Vaser, and we know you’re curious about the treatment. Here are answers to questions we commonly receive about Vaser.

Will It Address My Cellulite?

Cellulite is a tricky condition to resolve, but in some patients a Vaser treatment can help. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands that run between the skin and the muscles that lie beneath. As fat accumulates beneath the skin, it puts pressure on the bands, giving the skin a lumpy, dimpled look. Although cellulite has no long-term health ramifications, its presence is bothersome to some people. This type of lipo treatment can sometimes minimize the appearance of cellulite by eliminating excess fat.

Will I Lose Weight?

It’s possible you’ll drop a few pounds because of this treatment, primarily because Vaser emulsifies and removes a certain amount of fat from the body. But most patients don’t shed a significant amount of weight. You’ll still look great after treatment, though. One of the big advantages of this treatment is its ability to contour your body. Regular weight loss plans often result in pounds being dropped uniformly throughout the body. But a treatment like Vaser makes it possible to truly resculpt the body, enhancing curves in one area while whittling away extra fat in another.

What Type of Fat Does the Treatment Remove?

Liposuction targets subcutaneous fat, or the fat that is just beneath the surface of the skin. Although subcutaneous fat is normally harmless, it impacts an individual’s shape, silhouette, and appearance. Most weight reduction and fat-removal treatments, therefore, target subcutaneous fat.

The other type of fat in the body is visceral fat, which is the fat stored in the abdominal cavity and surrounds internal organs, such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines. Patients who carry higher amounts of visceral fat are at increased risk of a number of health problems, including type 2 diabetes. Diet and lifestyle changes are the most effective ways to target visceral fat.
