What Results Can You Expect From Liposuction?

Scroll For More Info

Do you struggle with stubborn pockets of excess fat clinging to your upper arms or bulging from your lower abdomen? Do you feel like your clothes don’t quite fit right and wish you could remove a bit of flab from a couple of places on your body? If so, you could benefit from liposuction at Synergy Wellness in Bakersfield, CA. Here’s what you can expect from the results.

What Results to Expect From Liposuction

Fat Loss

Liposuction is a fat removal procedure. Therefore, if you’re looking to remove excess fat from problem areas, you’re looking in the right place. Exactly how much excess fat can be removed depends on several factors, including your body weight, body mass index, body fat distribution, health, and aesthetic goals.

On average, one lipo session can remove around 26% of excess fat in a given area. This applies to larger areas with significant excess fat deposits, like the chest, back, thighs, flanks, hips, or buttocks. When targeting smaller areas, like the calves, knees, underarms, neck, or chin, up to 80% of excess fat can be removed from a targeted area.

Temporary Weight Loss

When you undergo lipo to lose excess fat cells, you also lose liquid weight temporarily. For example, if you have 10 pounds of fat removed, you may experience an 11-pound weight loss on the scale. However, this is not permanent. It’s important to understand that lipo is not a weight loss procedure.

If you’re concerned about weight loss, we can help you there, too. In fact, we have a program for every weight loss goal, motivation, and budget. If you’re not ready to commit to a program yet, we can help you start your weight loss journey with indirect calorimetry, a 30-minute test that will tell you exactly how many calories you burn at rest.

Circumference Loss

There’s a good rule of thumb that “every inch you can pinch is five pounds of fat.” Presume, based on your body weight, that you can safely have 11 pounds of fat removed during lipo. You can extrapolate that you will lose roughly 2.2 inches from the treated areas. However, you may temporarily lose more inches than this due to the loss of liquid volume.

If this doesn’t seem like a significant difference, check out a size chart from your favorite brand of jeans. Losing 2.2″ off of your waist or hips can result in dropping one or two clothing sizes. If you’re still not convinced that 2.2″ is a huge deal, ask us for Before-and-After photos of individuals who are roughly your size or shape. Seeing the difference will astound you.

Improved Self-Image

When you feel like you have to wear sweatpants to hide the size and shape of your buttocks, hips, or thighs, you probably don’t have the best self-image. Liposuction can improve your self-image by removing over a quarter of the excess fat cells in a given region. It can also be combined with other body contouring procedures or treatments to further improve your physique.

The bottom line is that lipo removes excess fat cells and results in the loss of several inches from the treatment area. This leads to a wider range of clothes that you fit into comfortably. Having virtually unlimited wardrobe options filled with clothes that fit you comfortably and fit you well will help you feel better about yourself and love life a bit more.

Improved Proportions

You were born with the bone structure for an hourglass figure. Unfortunately, due to genetics, you may carry your excess body fat disproportionately. Lipo is designed to remove excess fat cells from regions of your body with too many fat cells. If you could benefit from volume added to another part of your body, we can accommodate that, too.

In some parts of the country, the only way to achieve augmentation is to have synthetic plastics implanted into an area of concern, like the lips, cheeks, breasts, or buttocks. At Synergy Wellness in Bakersfield, CA, we can process the removed excess fat in a centrifuge, enrich the healthy fat cells with PRP and inject them into areas that need augmentation.

Good Candidates for Lipo

If you think lipo can provide the results you’re looking for, you’re probably wondering if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. The only way to know definitively if you’re a good candidate is to come in for an initial evaluation. There are several important factors to consider, including your health, skin health, body fat distribution, and lifestyle. Here’s a brief overview:

Adults Who Aren’t Pregnant or Nursing

If you are neither pregnant nor nursing, there’s a very good chance that you’ll be a good candidate for this procedure. However, we recommend that you wait at least six months from the time you stop nursing to consider this procedure. Lactation requires a great deal of energy, and it’s important that your body has plenty of energy for your post-op recovery.

Adults Who Aren’t Obese

To be a good candidate for this procedure, you must be within 30 pounds of a healthy weight. While there are several reasons for this, the most important is that your heart and lungs have to be healthy for you to be put under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.

It’s also important that you’re within 30 pounds of your goal weight because fat loss is like unraveling a roll of paper towels. At first, you don’t notice small losses. However, the closer you get to the end of the roll or your weight loss journey, the more dramatic the small, incremental changes will appear.

Adults Who Don’t Smoke or Drink Alcohol

The best candidate for this procedure neither smokes nor drinks alcohol. It’s important to consume neither of these products in the six weeks leading up to and following your procedure.

It’s just as important to ensure alcohol and tobacco products aren’t in your bloodstream after your procedure. Both tobacco products and alcohol elevate your blood pressure by constricting your blood vessels. This can result in prolonged healing as essential hydration and nutrients can’t reach the targeted areas.

What to Expect During the Recovery Period

Recovery from lipo isn’t extensive and usually only takes 10 to 14 days. During the first 24 hours post-op, you may feel drowsy if you are put under general anesthesia or sedation. However, local anesthesia will not cause you to feel drowsy. It’s okay to doze off when you feel tired. One of the most important things you can do during recovery is to listen to your body.

If you are put under general anesthesia or sedation, you will not be able to drive within 24 hours of waking up from the medication. We strongly encourage all of our clients to arrange for a ride home. If possible, have someone spend the first 24 hours post-op with you so you can focus on resting.

How to Speed Up Your Recovery Process

There are several things you can do to speed up your recovery process. As stated previously, one of the most important things you can do is to listen to your body. For example, you should rest when you feel tired. However, the most important thing you can do is to follow all post-op instructions. We will give you a comprehensive list during your evaluation.

For instance, it’s important to walk regularly during your recovery period, even if you don’t feel like walking. It’s okay to take short walks and regular breaks. The key to shortening your recovery period is to support a strong circulatory system while keeping your heart rate and blood pressure within a normal range. Other things you can do to speed up your recovery process include:

  • Taking naps
  • Sleeping at least nine hours daily
  • Drinking at least half a gallon of water daily
  • Eating lots of dark veggies
  • Eating lots of bright fruits
  • Eating enough lean, bioavailable protein
  • Taking only approved analgesics
  • Taking a full course of antibiotics exactly as prescribed
  • Avoiding excess sodium
  • Avoiding excess heat
  • Avoiding strenuous exercise for six weeks

Alternatives to Lipo

At Synergy Wellness in Bakersfield, CA, we offer several alternatives to lipo for individuals who aren’t ready for an extensive procedure. For example, if you’re looking to remove excess fat from your neck, chin, and jawline, we offer Kybella. Kybella is a non-invasive fat removal treatment featuring deoxycholic acid.

Deoxycholic acid is a chemical compound found naturally in your gut biome that plays a critical role in your lymphatic system. It typically processes dietary fats and flushes them out of your body as waste. However, when injected into your neck, the acid “eats” your white fat cells, improving the contour of your neck and jawline without pain, discomfort, or downtime.

What to Do if You’re Over 30 Pounds From a Healthy Weight

If you’re over 30 pounds from a healthy weight, you’re in good company. In fact, 25.8% of adults in California are obese, morbidly obese, or heavier. To be a good candidate for this procedure, you must lose enough weight to be healthy enough to be put under sedation or general anesthesia. However, you don’t have to do it alone.

We offer several weight loss programs and one of them will fit your needs. If you want to lose weight aggressively, we offer the Jumpstart Program that includes weekly weigh-ins, complete meal replacements, and injections designed to curb your appetite, boost your overall metabolism and fat metabolism and increase your energy.

Appetite Suppressant Programs

If the cause of your weight gain was your voracious appetite, look no further than one of our appetite suppressant programs. We offer a basic program with monthly weigh-ins, medications to curb your appetite, like Phentermine and a daily caloric intake plan based on your timeline, goals, and metabolic rate.

We also offer a deluxe program that includes weekly weigh-ins to keep you laser-focused on your fat loss goals and alternating injections of Vitamin B12 for appetite suppression, focus, and energy, as well as Lipoprotein-B boosters and Phentermine to make your weight loss journey easier. Together, we can get you to your goal weight and help you re-contour your body.
