Addiction Medications

Achieve long-term sobriety with support from addiction medications.

Medications for Supporting Your Recovery

Developed specifically to help people defeat substance addictions, medications and therapies offered at Synergy work by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings for drugs or alcohol. When used in conjunction with counseling, psychotherapy and supportive care, addiction medications are safe, effective and offer the extra assistance people in recovery may need to achieve long-term sobriety.

Some people fighting to overcome substance addiction are nervous about medication-assisted addiction treatment because they fear they will form an unhealthy dependency on the prescription medication provided. However, the opposite is usually true. The combination of counseling and prescription medication makes a beneficial and effective treatment tool for substance abuse. The synergistic effects of these two treatment methods combat both the withdrawal symptoms and the underlying cause of the addiction.

Medications provided are specially formulated to give patients relief from their withdrawal symptoms. So there is no need to be afraid of becoming addicted to the prescriptions you may use in our program.

Dr. Trobisch, who prescribes all medications used by our patients to help recover from addiction, specializes in addiction medication – particularly that used for alcohol and opiate abuse. As a physician board-certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine and American Society of Addiction Medicine, he ensures the prescription medication we provide is safe and non-addictive so that patients can progress in their recovery process without fear of compounded addiction.

We feel that those recovering from addiction should be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. That’s why we provide our medication-assisted addiction treatment in a comfortable, spa-like environment that’s very different from other treatment centers. We strive to take the stigma out of addiction treatment, so those in need can seek help in a caring environment where our staff provides the compassion necessary to make a full recovery from addiction. Fill out an online form to schedule a consultation.

Denise's Story

Denise struggled with alcohol and opioid painkiller addiction before starting treatment at Synergy Recovery Services. A combination of Buprenorphine (Suboxone) and IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) treatment, along with tough love by her daughter is what helped her beat her addiction.

NAD Treatment

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) is a metabolic coenzyme that repairs brain pathways damaged by an addiction. It is a critical part of energy production and is substantially involved in cell repair and DNA repair. NAD treatment repairs damage caused by depression, alcoholism, addiction, stress and PTSD — conditions that diminish neurotransmitters in the brain. Through NAD treatment, a patient’s neurotransmitter supplies are restored, allowing the brain to return to optimal functioning — ultimately providing the patient with the clarity of mind to begin a more successful recovery process.

The Bridge Device

Developed several years ago by Indiana-based Innovative Health Solutions and approved for use by the FDA, the Neuro-stim System Bridge detox device is a non-pharmaceutical method designed to provide pain relief for people withdrawing from opioid drugs.

Suboxone/Subutex Treatment

Suboxone and Subutex are both prescribed to help suppress cravings and withdrawal symptoms people experience when they are in recovery from opioids. Suboxone — containing buprenorphine and naloxone — and Subutex — containing buprenorphine — work by attaching to the brain’s opioid receptors that are stimulated specifically by heroin, prescription pain pills and other opioids. If an addict uses heroin or painkillers while taking Suboxone or Subutex, they will not feel that anticipated opioid “high” because the medication blocks receptor activity.

Probuphine Opioid Treatment

Probuphine is the first FDA-approved, under-the-skin implant designed for maintenance treatment of an opioid dependence. Once implanted, Probuphine delivers a constant, low-level dose of buprenorphine, the standard medication given to recovering opioid addicts but in pill or sublingual form. Meant for addicts already stabilized on buprenorphine, Probuphine implants remain under the skin for six months, at which time they need removed.

Vivitrol Treatment

Vivitrol is a monthly injectable addiction medication used for relapse prevention in alcohol and opioid addiction. It contains naltrexone, a chemical that blocks opioid receptors and modulating release of dopamine in the brain. By inhibiting the euphoric effects of opioids and alcohol, Vivitrol removes the “high” feeling addicts crave when using opioids or alcohol, which also helps them cope with the possibility of relapse. Alcohol-dependent patients may start Vivitrol injections immediately, whereas opioid addicts need to be detoxed — with Suboxone or Subutex — first and remain opioid free for 7-10 days prior starting Vivitrol.

Naltrexone Implants

As a prescription-only drug, naltrexone blocks the opioid receptors in the brain and the responsible for cravings and the sensual feelings one gets from substances such as opioid painkillers an heroin. Naltrexone implants are one of the most effective medications when used in pharmacotherapy, drastically reducing alcohol and drug cravings, which helps addicts avoid relapse and aids in a successful road to recovery.

These treatments, along with multiple other medications, assist patients with opioid and alcohol detoxification and relapse prevention. Whether used alone or in combination with another treatment, Dr. Trobisch and his team customize the medication treatment for each patient based on their specific needs and symptoms.
